The History of Rangeley Hotels and Camps was
my first venture into the publishing field. The book documents all
the commercial sporting establishments that operated in the Rangeley
area from the late 1800s to the current era. Rangeley was exposed
to the world of the sports fisherman in the late 1860s thus creating
a demand for lodging facilities and over the next three decades several
hotels and camps were erected to accommodate the growing demand. This
book chronicles their story as Rangeley became a sportsman's mecca. |

Mingo Springs Camps were established in 1896 when Frederick
Belcher built five sporting camps at Mingo Point. In 1900 James Munyon
of Philadelphia acquired them and in 1906 built a large hotel and
over the next several years added several sleeping camps and it became
one of the leading resorts in the area. The hotel closed in 1964 and
the buildings were sold individually. In 1971 Priest purchased three
of the camps which he still own today. This book reveals the growth
and camp life as it was in the early days. |
